Ubud food market, Bali

12 Jun

I’m fresh back from a fantastic holiday to Bali with friends to celebrate my birthday. As a gift to me, my lovely friends booked us in for a Balinese cooking class in the mountains of Ubud. The morning started at the food market where our guide took us to various stalls explaining the produce and its use in Balinese cuisine & life.

Whilst at the market I was able to buy a few things including a mortar & pestle made from volcanic rock for only $6 and bag of local vanilla beans for only $5. I was tempted to buy a whole kilo of vanilla beans for $20 but thought that might be pushing it with customs.

The Paon Bali Cooking Class is run in a traditional Balinese home by entertaining hosts, Puspa & Wayan. The purpose-built facilities were excellent and the food amazing. If you are heading to Bali (as so many of us Australians do) please add this to your Must Do list.
